E.M. Anderson records, 1929-1953 (bulk 1933-1947)

The E.M. Anderson records consist of files of several different supervisors at the Power Department relating to power operations at the following Ford Motor Company sites: Airplane Engine Division, Chicago, Illinois; Aircraft Building, Rouge River Plant; Camp Legion, Dearborn, Michigan; Dearborn Engineering Laboratory; Fordson Coal Company, Stone, Kentucky; and summary reports of various Ford Motor Company plants. The records contain communications between the Power Department, Plant Engineering Department, Purchasing-Engineering Department, and outside contractors and vendors, relating to power production, operating costs of the plants, engineering test results, plant building and construction, and new or replacement equipment, fittings, and machinery. Records consist primarily of cost estimates and cost reports, along with computations and specifications, blueprints and other technical and design drawings, photographs, and related correspondence. Many of the files contain intermittent correspondence with Albert Kahn Associated, Inc., regarding the firm's work at the sites as it pertained to electrical engineering and power operations. The Aircraft Engine Division files, 1940-1953, include correspondence, graphs, reports, and photographs, relating to building construction; power generation, consumption, and purchase; and engine and equipment testing at the Aircraft Engine Division in Chicago, where Pratt Whitney engines, primarily the J-57, were built and tested. Photographs depict the jet test cell area, plant operations, and building construction. Also included is a small amount of material regarding work orders, purchasing, and repairs at the Aircraft Building of the Rouge River Plant. Power operations covered at the Dearborn Engineering Laboratory consist of Power House condensers and spray pond, 1943; additions to the boiler house; 1929-1930; and government-mandated oil-to-coal conversion, 1943. Records are arranged by location and then by name of plant.
